What do the Mormon missionaries teach?
The Mormon missionary message is simple. Every missionary, no matter where they are serving throughout the world, has one common goal: to bring souls unto Christ. The missionary message is universal throughout the world. The lessons taught to investigators of the church are standard and set by the leaders of the church. Although each missionary has their own style and strengths in teaching, they all teach the same basic principles. Missionaries are sent to teach faith, repentance, and baptism. These are necessary in order to enter into the Kingdom of God.
The lessons that missionaries teach are outlined in a teaching manual entitled “Preach my Gospel.” Throughout the lessons, the missionaries will teach about the trinity, which we believe is comprised of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. Mormon missionaries will teach about the plan of salvation. The plan of salvation tells us where we have been, where we are now, and where we are going in the future. It can help us understand the meaning of life. Mormon missionaries will teach about the importance of prophets and our need for modern day revelation. Missionaries will challenge us to live Christ-centered lives and to follow his example in all things. If we accept Jesus Christ and live according to His teachings, we can dwell with Heavenly Father forever.
Missionaries will teach about Joseph Smith and the first vision. Missionaries will teach investigators of his desire to know which church he should join and God and Jesus appeared to him, telling him to join none of them. Missionaries will encourage their investigators to say a sincere prayer and ask Heavenly Father if the Mormon Church is right for them. Mormon missionaries will testify of Joseph Smith and his restoring of the true church here on earth. For years, the truth had been lost during the Great Apostasy when prophets strayed from the church and destruction ensued. Through inspiration from God, Joseph Smith found the ancient brass plates and translated the Book of Mormon.
The Book of Mormon is used by Mormon missionaries to teach basic principles. The main purpose of the Book of Mormon is to help believers strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ and to convince others to come unto Christ. The Book of Mormon was written for our generation in this day to bring men unto Christ.
Missionaries will encourage those they teach to ponder the words of the Book of Mormon and ask Heavenly Father sincerely through prayer if the Mormon Church is right for them. The investigator is always free to ask questions or express concern throughout the meetings. The role of the missionary is to answer any question you may have about Mormon doctrine. Missionaries will never force you to believe or do anything you don’t want to do. When the investigator has learned about the gospel of Jesus Christ and has gained a testimony of its truthfulness, the missionary ask if he or she wants to be baptized. Being baptized and confirmed a member of the Mormon Church is a major event in one’s life that brings much happiness and peace.
